Edwin was born in Long Whatton on the 25 of December 1887, birth registered at Loughborough March quarter 1888. Baptised 29 April 1888 All Saints as Edwin Whiting Hall. Mother given as Eliza Hall (of Belton) with note, "Afterwards married to Henry Whiting." (School records give Harry Whiting as father, a groom from Sherwood, Notts)
