Eric Scott-Parker Memorial Sculpture and Display

The Sculpture and Display was unveiled on Saturday October 7th.

This unique curved sculpture is a tribute to Eric Scott-Parker (13th June 1935 to 2nd June 2015)
and the contribution he made to the life of the village and his desire to inspire others about the countryside.
Eric was a much-loved village character. Born in Staffordshire, he came to Long Whatton in 1951, to work at the Whatton Estates.
In 1960, he became a stockman for B. S. Cawdell & Sons at Manor Farm, where he worked for 34 years.
The whole village was his family and as a village character he was well known locally. Eric never owned a car,
but travelled about in his red Nuffield tractor, usually towing a trailer.
He was also known for digging his own grave and making a coffin out of an old wardrove.
However, it was his love and knowledge of all matters relating of the countryside that is the inspiration of this artwork.
Eric wrote an article every month called “Nature Trail” for the Long Whatton Village Magazine from 1975 to 2015.
The features on the sculpture are the most mentioned items of natural history in his Nature notes.
